Auntie Betty – This piece arrived from a friend in the way I’ve inherited many pieces, a good solid piece of furniture, that had some sentimental value, yet had been hanging out in an outbuilding for some time.. Aunty Betty the lady was a massive cricket and rugby fan and was much loved by her family.
This is a very solid and compact little desk, perfect for smaller spaces and made by Strongbow Furniture, from my research I would imagine circa 1940 / 1950.
Dimensions: Width 76cm; Height 99cm; Depth 38cm (or 71cm with desk flap open)
Firstly I cleaned the piece, then I sanded the failed stain/lacquer from the front and the drawers to reveal a really pretty veneer detail. Then I oiled and waxed all the wood inside and out (she was quite thirsty). Finally I painted her sides, bottom and inside in a flat black and buffed her handles until they shone again. She is a very classy type.
