Granny’s Bureau – This piece arrived from a friend in the way I’ve inherited many pieces, a good solid piece of furniture, that had sentimental value, but needed a new lease of life.. My friend remembers her Granny keeping her airmail letters inside..
This is a very solid bureau with some age, I imagine circa 1920 / 1930.
Dimensions: Width 91cm; Height 99cm; Depth 46cm (or 77cm with desk flap open)
Firstly I cleaned and sanded the piece, then I repaired some damage to the drawer runners and trim then primed. Following this I painted her in a paint effect to mimic ‘chatêau style’ and then protected with wax. Finally I applied some gilding wax to the details and oiled and waxed all the drawers.
This is a really lovely well made piece that has been refinished to have another adventure. It is suprisingly spacious and takes a laptop easily, making it a very pretty home office that can be closed at the end of the day.
